Felted Stones

Finishing up a batch of felted stone paperweights.

They begin with beautiful flat stones from Lake Michigan.
I wrap the stones with wool (from our sheep, of course!) and wet felt the wool to the stones.

And then....the really fun part - adding words, wire, and beads.

New Pieces

Finally, some time to finish up some new fiber pieces.  Several more in the works, but these two are ready to take to the gallery.

Pink & Pee Wee

Miss Pink Bird and her little friend Pee Wee made it to Santa Barbara.  Here she is, enjoying her new garden with Quan-Yin.  Thanks to her new care takers for the fun picture!

Lots of Wool!

Today I am attempting to organize my wool stash.  Like any self-respecting fiber artist, I have WAY too much wool!  I'm hoping a new shelving unit and all these nice tubs will help me get my wool piles under control.

Miss Pink Bird

Lots of projects in the works and many more ideas bouncing around in my brain....here's a look at Miss Pink Bird (and her little travel companion) who recently flew to California to live with new friends.

Thought it might be fun to document the creation of Miss Pink - here she is in progress.

Wire legs

Forming the body

Adding the head, and next - the tail

Adding the beak - begins with a fluff of wool and is slowly formed and shaped

Wings and crown are made separately and attached

Details are stitched on, and she is complete!

New Pieces at Thistle Gallery

Dropped off a few new pieces at Thistle Gallery this week.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that my work has been moved to a nice roomy display at the front of the gallery.  Sweet!

Little Acorns

Our big oak trees in the front yard produced a huge crop of acorns last fall.  I rescued some of the caps from the squirrels one beautiful fall day....and spent a winter afternoon creating some of these cute little needle felted acorns.

Lake Memories

I've been playing around with a collection of Petoskey stones that I found on the Lake Michigan shoreline last summer - dreaming of warmer days to come!  Here's one of my new lake inspired pieces.

(I entered it in Gallery Uptown's 14th Annual Winter Art Festival, but it didn't get in...oh well!)

Wine About Winter - Big Fun!

Friday night's Wine About Winter was a bunch of fun - except for the long drive home from Grand Haven in the blinding snow (whine...)
Crowds of visitors stopped by Down To Earth and looked at my artwork and asked interesting questions about needle felting, wool, and sheep.  Sold a few things too, which made the evening even more fun.

Check this link from the Grand Haven Tribune for more about Wine About Winter 2008.

Here's a look at my display at the store.
